Affordable Care Act—increasing benefit to Solano County citizens
7 p.m., Wednesday, November 6

First Baptist Church
1055 Southampton Road, Benicia

Panel members will review the new health insurance options offered to you as a Californian and show you how to access them in Solano County or online. U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson representing California’s Fifth District (including Solano County), will open the presentation. He and Mel Orpilla, Thompson’s District representative, will provide an overview of ACA law and federal government resources available. He will be followed by two certified enrollment counselors from the Solano Coalition for Better Health.  Shai Baron, will address California’s healthcare exchange called Covered California. Cristina Calvo will review key steps in the enrollment process. Liz Gibboney, Deputy Executive Director of Partnership HealthPlan of California in Fairfield, will discuss an overview of the Medi-Cal program in North Bay area and how it will change in 2014.  A general overview of facts for businesses in Solano County will also be covered.

Other political representatives have been invited to be available to answer questions following the panel discussion. Norlyn Asprec, field representative for Susan Bonilla, California assemblywoman for the 14th District, is invited.  Danny Bernadini, field representative for Lois Wolk, California Senator for the 3rd District, is also invited.

The program will provide a starting point to understand and use the ACA law to help yourself or others you know who are in need. The program will address how the healthcare law affects you, your family or your small business, here in California. It’s for people who already have insurance and people who don’t — but want to get it. Speakers will address cost concerns and identify where you can get help to calculate expenses.

For those interested, pre-enrollment Solano Coalition for Better Health and representatives from the Solano chapter of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a statewide enrollment entity, will have applications available for contact in the days following this session.

This meeting is open to the public – individuals wanting to purchase healthcare exchange insurance are especially welcome. Religious organizations or community non-profit agencies interested in assisting Solano County residents toward this goal are also encouraged to send a representative to attend.
